ANNEXURE EXTRACTS FROM THE AADHAAR (TARGETED DELIVERY OF FINANCIAL AND OTHER SUBSIDIES, BENEFITS AND SERVICES) ACT, 2016 (18 OF 2016) * Definitions. * * * * 2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) “Aadhaar number” means an identification number issued to an individual under sub-section (3) of section 3; (b) “Aadhaar number holder” means an individual who has been issued an Aadhaar number under this Act; * * * * * (i) “Chairperson” means the Chairperson of the Authority appointed under section 12; * * * * * (p) “notification” means a notification published in the Official Gazette and the expression “notified” with its cognate meanings and grammatical variations shall be construed accordingly; * * * * * 4. (1)* * * * * (3) An Aadhaar number, in physical or electronic form subject to authentication and other conditions, as may be specified by regulations, may be accepted as proof of identity of the Aadhaar number holder for any purpose. Explanation.—For the purposes of this sub-section, the expression “electronic form” shall have the same meaning as assigned to it in clause (r) of sub-section (1) of section 2 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 . * Authentication of Aadhaar number. * 8. (1)* * * * * * * * (2) A requesting entity shall— (a) unless otherwise provided in this Act, obtain the consent of an individual before collecting his identity information for the purposes of authentication in such manner as may be specified by regulations; and (b) ensure that the identity information of an individual is only used for submission to the Central Identities Data Repository for authentication. (3) A requesting entity shall inform, in such manner as may be specified by regulations, the individual submitting his identity information for authentication, the following details with respect to authentication, namely: — * Officers and other employees of Authority. * * * * 21.
