2 Online Safety Act, No. 9 of 2024 (b) to ensure protection from communication of statements in contempt of court or prejudicial to the maintenance of the authority and impartiality of the judiciary, by way of an online account or through an online location; (c) to introduce measures to detect, prevent and safeguard against the misuses of online accounts and bots to commit offences under this Act; and (d) to prevent the financing, promotion and other support of online locations which repeatedly communicate prohibited statements in Sri Lanka, by way of online account or through an online location. PART I ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ONLINE SAFETY COMMISSION Establishment of the Online Safety Commission 4. (1) There shall be established a Commission, which shall be called the Online Safety Commission (hereinafter referred to as the “Commission”). (2) The Commission shall, by the name assigned to it by subsection (1), be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, and may sue and be sued in such name. (3) The Commission shall exercise and perform the powers and functions assigned to it under this Act for the purpose of achieving the objectives of this Act.
