In all these, it is quite evident that the road
that lies ahead is rife with struggles and
constant debate. Still, the task—no matter
how difficult—must be done. The stakes are
too high, while the threats are all too real. At
the same time, though, the upside is
impossible to set aside. After all, only by
ensuring transparency can the public hold
the government accountable for its activities
and decisions, and only by ensuring privacy
can citizens freely exercise their rights.⁶⁰ If
anything, this should be enough to convince
any true rights advocate to see this
campaign through.
