(2) When the President, by reason of absence from Pakistan or any other cause, is unable to
perform his functions, the Chairman or, if he too is absent or unable to perform the functions of the
office of President, the Speaker of the National Assembly shall perform the functions of President
until the President returns to Pakistan or, as the case may be, resumes his functions.
CHAPTER 2. – THE1[MAJLISESHOORA (PARLIAMENT)]
Composition, Duration and Meetings of 1[MajliseShoora (Parliament)]
2[50. MajliseShoora (Parliament). There shall be a MajliseShoora (Parliament) of
Pakistan consisting of the President and two Houses to be known respectively as the National
Assembly and the Senate.]
3[51. National Assembly. (1) There shall be three hundred and fortytwo seats for members in
the National Assembly, including seats reserved for women and nonMuslims.
(2) A person shall be entitled to vote if—
(a) he is a citizen of Pakistan;
(b) he is not less than eighteen years of age;
(c) his name appears on the electoral roll; and
(d) he is not declared by a competent court to be of unsound mind.
(3) The seats in the National Assembly referred to in clause (1), except as provided in clause (4),
shall be allocated to each Province, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the Federal Capital
as under:—
