CHAPTER 1
GENERAL PROVISIONS
Article 1._
The purpose of this Law is to establish the procedures and the conduct of the Election of
Members of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Article 2 ._
The Election of Members of the National Assembly shall be conducted in accordance
with the principles of multi-party liberal democracy.
Article 3 ._
The Election of Members of the National Assembly shall be held every 5 (five) years.
The date of polling shall be determined and announced by the Prime Minister at the
request of the Minister of Interior.
The Election of Members of the National Assembly shall be held only 1 (one) day on
Sunday except for the following circumstances:
- Force majeure, in which the Election Day shall be postponed;
- Dissolution of the National Assembly before the end of its mandate; in this case the
election shall be held within sixty (60) days following the dissolution of the National
Assembly;
- Extension of the legislative term of the National Assembly pursuant to
paragraph 5 of Article 78 of the Constitution.
Article 4 ._
The management of the Election of Members of the National Assembly shall be under
the jurisdiction of the National Election Committee as defined in Law on Organization and
Functioning of the National Election Committee.
CHAPTER 2
ELECTORAL SYSTEM AND DETERMINATION OF SEATS
Article 5._
The Members of the National Assembly shall be elected by a general, universal, free, fair
and just, equal, direct, and by means of secret voting.
The electoral system shall be proportional representation with capital/provincial
constituencies.
