The court found that when people commit libel and slander crimes on websites and social networks, Article 114 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Article (11) of the Code of Electronic Crimes apply to these case, not Articles 42 and 45 of the Press and Publications Law. This means that defamation charges will now be brought against journalists, news websites, and social networking sites under the country's cybercrime law instead of its press law, thus removing protection for journalists being imprisoned for press-related violations.
