A court sentenced Mourtada to imprisonment and a fine on a charge of "usurping an identity" for having created an unauthorized, but non-defamatory, Facebook profile of King Mohamed VI's brother. Mourtada said during the trial that two plain-clothes security agents arrested him and forced him into a car. He says they blindfolded him, then drove him to an unknown place, where they assaulted him until he "confessed" that he had placed a profile of the Prince on Facebook to "get girlfriends". He was only released from prison after the King pardoned him. There was no investigation held regarding the torture claims.
