to injure any person in his trade or profession ; or
( e ) to prevent or obstruct, by means of any act or acts which
if done by an individual person would constitute an offence
on his part, the free and lawful exercise by any person of
his trade, profession or occupation ; or
(/) to effect any unlawful purpose ; or
(g)
to effect any lawful purpose by any unlawful means;
is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for
two years.
C H A P T E R VII'.
PUNISHMENTS.
The following punishments may be inflicted by a c o u r t : —
37.
(a)
death;

(b) imprisonment;
(c)
fine ;
(d)
payment of compensation ;
(e)
finding security to keep the peace and be of good behaviour
or to come up for judgment.
38. The punishment of death shall be inflicted by hanging the
offender by the neck until he is dead.

39.—(1) A l l imprisonment shall be with labour unless the court
otherwise directs.

(2) A person liable to imprisonment for life or any other period
may be sentenced for any shorter term.
40. —(1) Where any person is sentenced to imprisonment, the
court may, if it thinks fit, having regard to the nature of tne offence
and the antecedents of the offender, direct that he shall be given
special treatment.

treatment.
(2) Where any person is sentenced to imprisonment without
special treatment, the Chief Justice may at any time, having regard
to the nature of the offence for which such person was convicted
and his antecedents, direct that such person shall be given special
treatment.
(3) Special treatment shall be i n accordance w i t h rules made
under the provisions of the Prisons Ordinance, 1921.
41. Where a fine is imposed under any law, then i n the absence
of express provisions relating to such fine i n such law the following
provisions shall apply :—
( a ) W h e r e no sum is expressed to which the fine may extend,
the amount of the fine which may be imposed shall not
exceed two hundred pounds.
(b) I n the case of an offence punishable w i t h a fine or a term
of imprisonment, the imposition of a fine or a term of i m prisonment shall be a matter for the discretion of the court.
( c ) Such fine shall be levied and recovered i n all respects i n
accordance w i t h and subject to the provisions of the law i n
force regarding execution of judgments.
