No. 6 Broadcasting Services 1993 3 THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA No. 6 of 1993 I ASSENT, 11 President 1993 An Act to make provision for the management and regulation of broadcasting and for other matters related to it ENACTED by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania. PART I I I PRELIMINARY 1. This Act may be cited as the Broadcasting Services Act, 1993, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notice a published in the Gazette, appoint. Short title and commercement 2. In this Act, except where the context requires otherwise''broadcaster'' means a person who is licensed under this Act to carry on a broadcasting service; ''broadcasting apparatus'' means an apparatus for the reception of television broadcasts or for the reception of sound broadcasts, and where an apparatus is designed or constructed for the reception of both television and sound broadcast (other than those relating to television broadcasts) such apparatus shall be deemed to comprise two sets of apparatus, one for the reception of television broadcasts and one for the reception of sound broadcasts, as the case may be; "broadcasting service'' means a radio communication service in which the transmissions are intended for direct transmissory reception by members of the general public, and ''broadcast'' used as a verb shall be construed accordingly; ''broadcasting station'' means all premises whatsoever used for the purpose of carrying on a broadcasting service together with the transmitters, apparatus and equipment, including vehicles, required in connection with them; ''Commission'' means the Tanzania Broadcasting Commission establishsed by section 5; Interpretation Application
