Case Summary

Police arrested Belghouat, known as “al-Haqed", in March 2012 for composing, recording, and sharing a rap song which denounced police corruption. The song is titled “Kilab ed-Dowla” (Dogs of the State). He was accused of releasing a YouTube video containing a photo-montage set to the song, which he categorically denied. The court sentenced him to one year imprisonment for insulting the country's police force. He was released in March 2013.
