A n y person who takes part i n an unlawful assembly is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for one year. Punishment of riot. 81. A n y person who takes part i n a riot is guilty misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for two years. Making order for rioters to disperse. 82. A n y District Commissioner or District Officer or Magistrate or, i n his absence, any Police Officer of or above the rank of Inspector, i n whose view three or more persons are riotously assembled, or who apprehends that a riot is about to be committed by three or more persons assembled w i t h i n his view may, after notifying his presence by blowing a bugle or-whistle or by some similar means or by the firing from a pistol of a Verey light, order the rioters or persons so assembled to disperse peaceably. Dispersion of rioters. 83. I f on the expiration of a reasonable time after such notification and order made, or after the making of such notification or order has been prevented by force, three or more persons continue riotously assembled together, any person authorised to make notification and order as i n the last preceding section mentioned or any Police Officer, or any other person acting i n aid of such person or Police Officer, may do all things necessary for dispersing the persons so continuing assembled, or for apprehending them or any of them, and, if any person makes resistance, may use all such force as is reasonably necessary for overcoming such resistance, and shall not be liable i n any criminal or civil proceeding for having, by the use of such force, caused h a r m , death or damage to any person. Rioting after order. 84. I f notification is given and order is made, commanding the persons engaged i n a riot, or assembled with the purpose of committing a riot, to disperse, every person who, at or after the expiration of a reasonable time from the making of such notification and order, takes or continues to take part i n the riot or assembly, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for five years. Preventing or obstructing the making of notification. 85. A n y person who forcibly prevents or obstructs the making of such notification or order as is i n section 82 mentioned, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for ten years; and if the making of the notification or order is so prevented, every person who, knowing that it has been so prevented, takes or continues to take part i n the riot or assembly is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for five years. Rioters demolishing buildings, etc. of a 86. I f any persons, being riotously assembled together, unlawfully pull down or destroy, or begin to pull down or destroy, any building, ship, railway, machinery, or structure, telegraph line, power line, pipe line or any pipe for water supply, each of them is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. Eioters injuring buildings, machinery, etc. 87. I f any persons, being riotously assembled together, unlawfully damage any of the things i n the last preceding section mentioned, each of them is guilty of a felony and is liable to i m prisonment for seven years. Riotously preventing the sailing of ship. 88. A l l persons who, being riotously assembled, unlawfully and with force prevent, hinder or obstruct the loading or unloading, or the sailing or navigating of any vessel or unlawfully and w i t h force board any vessel w i t h intent to do so are guilty of a misdemeanour.
