A n y person who :— Attempt to murder. attempts unlawfully to cause the death of another; or ( b ) w i t h intent unlawfully to cause the death of another does any act, or omits to do any act w h i c h it is his duty to do, such act or omission being of such a nature as to be likely to endanger human l i f e ; is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. 223. A n y person who, being under sentence of imprisonment, attempts to commit murder, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. Attempt to murder by convict. 224. A n y person who, knowing the contents thereof, directly or indirectly causes to be received any writing threatening to k i l l any person, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years. Written threats to murder. 225. —(1) A n y person who attempts to k i l l himself is guilty of a misdemeanour. Attempting and abetting suicide. (2) A n y person who :— (a) procures another to k i l l himself; or ( b ) counsels another to k i l l himself him to do so ; or and thereby induces (c) aids another i n k i l l i n g himself; is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for life. 226. —(1) W h e r e a woman by any wilful act or omission causes the death of her newly-born child, but at the time of the act or omission she had not fully recovered from the effect of giving birth to such child, and by reason thereof the balance of her m i n d was then disturbed, she shall, notwithstanding that the circumstances were such that but for this section the offence would have amounted to murder, be guilty of infanticide, and may for such offence be dealt w i t h and punished as if she had been guilty of the offence of manslaughter of such child. Conviction for infanticide in certain cases. (2) Nothing i n this section shall affect the power of the court upon an information for the murder of a newly-born child to find the accused guilty of manslaughter, or guilty but insane, or guilty of concealment of birth. (3) The provisions of this Code relating to concealment of birth apply i n the case of the acquittal of a woman upon information for infanticide as they apply upon the acquittal of a woman for murder. 227. A n y person who, when a woman is delivered of a child, endeavours, by any secret disposition of the dead body of the child, to conceal the b i r t h , whether the child died before, at, or after its birth, is guilty of a misdemeanour.
