I f the thing stolen is a fixture or chattel let to the offender to be used by h i m with a house or lodging, and its value exceeds five pounds, he is guilty of a misdemeanour. Stealing after previous conviction. 278.—(1) I f the offender, before committing the theft; had been convicted of a theft punishable under section 270 of this Code, he is liable to imprisonment for three years. (2) I f the offender, before committing a theft under section 272 of this Code, had been convicted of a theft punishable under that section, he is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years. CHAPTER X X X . OFFENCES A L L I E D TO S T E A L I N G . Concealing registers. 279. A n y person who, w i t h intent to defraud, conceals or takes from its place of deposit any register which is authorised or required by law to be kept for authenticating or recording the title to any property, or for recording births, baptisms, marriages, deaths or burials, or a copy of any part of any such register which is required by law to be sent to any public office, is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for seven years. Concealing wills. 280. A n y person who, with intent to defraud, conceals any testamentary instrument, whether the testator is living or dead, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years. Concealing deeds. 281. A n y person who, with intent to-defraud, conceals the whole or part of any document which is evidence of title to any land or estate i n land is guilty of a misdemeanour. Killing animals with intent to steal. 282. A n y person who kills any animal capable of being stolen w i t h intent to steal the skin or carcass, or any part of the skin or carcass, is liable to the same punishment as if he had stolen the animal. Severing with intent steal. 283. A n y person who completely severs anything which has previously been attached to an immovable thing w i t h intent to steal i t , is liable to the same punishment as if he had stolen the thing after it had been severed Fraudulently dealing with minerals in 28-1. A n y person who takes, conceals or otherwise disposes of any ore or any metal or mineral i n or about a mine, w i t h intent to defraud any person, is guilty of a felony and is liable to i m prisonment for five years . P'raudulent appropriation of power and running water. 285.—(1) E v e r y person who maliciously or fraudulently abstracts, causes to be wasted or diverted, consumes or uses any electricity, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for five years. (2) A n y person who fraudulently abstracts or diverts to his own use or to the use of any other person any running water, the property of another person, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for five years.
