The Act requires public bodies to provide requested information within 15 working days, or within two days for urgent requests concerning the life or liberty of an individual. It also obligates public bodies to proactively disclose various categories of information in an accessible and up-to-date manner. The Act establishes the Balochistan Information Commission, that is empowered to adjudicate complaints, set procedural rules for public bodies, determine fees for information requests, and enforce compliance with the Act. However, concerns of a conflict of interest arise from the inclusion of a serving BPS-20 officer, potentially complicating decisions on complaints against higher-ranking government officials. Moreover, despite the Act's provisions, the Balochistan government has yet to establish the Commission or notify PIOs in provincial departments, rendering the law ineffective in practice without the necessary institutional mechanisms.
