- Case Summary
Police arrested Hirak activists on charges of “disturbing relations with a foreign state.” for distributing posters carrying the word "Rabia", a reference to a square in Cairo where Muslim Brotherhood protesters were dispersed by security forces. Al-Bahrawi faced an additional charge of “insulting foreign leaders” apparently based on messages he sent via WhatsApp. The court amended the description of the charge against them from the crime of "carrying out acts that the government did not divulge that would disturb the relations with a sister Arab country" to the misdemeanor of distributing flyers and publications. They were charged with suspended sentences of 6 months in prison.
