Decree No. (78) of 2019
Determining the Administrative Entity to Assume the Duties and Powers of Personal Data Protection
Authority
We, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain
Having perused the Constitution;
And Law No. (30) of 2018, with respect to Personal Data Protection Law, and, in particular, Article (27)
therein;
Upon the submission of the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf; and
Following the approval of the Council of Ministers:
We hereby decree the following:
Article (1)
The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf shall assume the duties and powers of the Personal
Data Protection Authority, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. (30) of 2018 with respect to
Personal Data Protection Law, pending the financial allocation for the Authority in the State’s general
budget, and the issuance of a decree forming the Board of Directors.
The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf shall assume the duties and powers of the Authority’s
Board of Director and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, in accordance with the aforementioned
law.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry for Justice and Islamic Affairs shall assume the duties and powers of
the Chief Executive Officer.
Article (2)
The Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf shall implement the provisions of this decree, which
shall be in effect from the date of its issuance, and shall be published in the Official Gazette.
