al-Yadib, a blogger and activist, attended a student protest that was repressed by the police. He then posted an announcement of a strike by bloggers for “a week of mourning for freedom of expression in Morocco.” He was formally arrested for participating in an illegal protest, and the first instance court of Guelmim sentenced him to prison and a fine for encouraging a protest in defense of freedom of expression. al-Yadib appealed the decision, and the justice released him after 2 months and 9 days of imprisonment. The court confirmed that he did not have any aggressive behavior during the protest, that he only covered it to write an article, and therefore, his only crime would have been to publish an article critical of the government.
