B E I T E N A C T E D by the H i g h Commissioner for Palestine, with the advice of
the Advisory Council thereof :—
P A R T I.
GENERAL
PROVISIONS.
C H A P T E R I.
PRELIMINARY.
1. T h i s Ordinance may be cited as the Criminal Code
Ordinance, 1936, and hereinafter is referred to as "this C o d e " .
Short title.
2.
P r o m and after the commencement of this Code, the
Ottoman P e n a l Code shall cease to be i n force i n Palestine. A n y
reference to any provision i n the Ottoman P e n a l Code i n any
Ordinance i n force at the time of such commencement shall, so
far as is consistent with its context, be deemed to be a reference
to the corresponding provision i n this Code.

3.
N o t h i n g i n this Code shall affect:—
( a ) the liability, trial or punishment of a person for an
offence against any law i n force i n Palestine other than this
Code ; or
(6) the liability of •a
offence under the
Palestine relating to
respect of acts done
courts; or
person to be tried or punished for an

the jurisdiction of the Palestine courts i n
beyond the ordinary jurisdiction of such
( c ) the power of any court to punish a person for contempt
of such court ; or
( d ) the liability or trial of a person, or the punishment of a
person under any sentence passed or to be passed i n respect
of any act done or commenced before the commencement
of this Code ; or
(e)
any power of the H i g h Commissioner to grant a pardon
or to remit or commute i n whole or i n part or to respite the
execution of any sentence passed or to be passed ; or
(/) any of the statutes, ordinances, regulations, or articles
for the time being i n force for the government of H i s
Majesty's M i l i t a r y Forces, or the Police Forces of Palestine.
