T h i s Code shall be interpreted i n accordance w i t h the principles of legal interpretation obtaining i n E n g l a n d , and expressions used i n it shall be presumed, so far as is consistent with their context and except as may be otherwise expressly provided, to be used with the meaning attaching to them i n E n g l i s h law and shall be construed i n accordance therewith. 5. I n this Code, unless the context otherwise indicates:— "Contravention" means any offence punishable w i t h i m ­ prisonment for not more than a week or, if w i t h fine only, w i t h a fine not exceeding five pounds. " C o u r t " means a court of competent jurisdiction. " D w e l l i n g house" includes any building or structure or part of a building or structure which is for the time being kept by the owner or occupier for the residence therein of himself, his family or servants or any of them, and it is i m ­ material that it is from time to time uninhabited; a building or structure adjacent to or occupied or used for any purpose with a dwelling house is deemed to be part of the dwelling house if there is a communication between such building or structure and the dwelling house, either immediate or by means of a covered and enclosed passage leading from the one to the other, but not otherwise. "Dangerous h a r m " means harm endangering life. ‫ " ׳‬F e l o n y " means an offence which is punishable, without proof of previous conviction, w i t h death, or w i t h imprison­ ment for more than three years. "Grievous h a r m " dangerous h a r m , or or comfort, or which or which extends to permanent or serious membrane or sense. means any harm which amounts to seriously or permanently injures health is likely so to injure health or comfort, permanent disfigurement or to any injury to any external or internal organ, " H a r m " means any bodily hurt, whether permanent or temporary. disease or disorder, " J u d i c a l proceedings" includes any proceeding had or taken i n or before any court, tribunal, commission of enquiry or person i n which or before whom evidence may be taken on oath, whether such court, tribunal, commission of enquiry or person takes evidence on oath or not . " K n o w i n g l y " , used i n connection w i t h any term denoting uttering or using, implies knowledge of the character of the thing uttered or used. " L a w " includes such Acts of the Imperial Parliament and Orders of H i s Majesty-in-Council as have been or may here­ after be applied to Palestine, and orders, proclamations, by­ laws, rules and regulations made under any such A c t or Order, Ordinances, and all Orders of the H i g h Commissioner-inCouncil, orders, proclamations, by-laws, rules and regulations made under any Ordinance. " M i l i t a r y F o r c e s " includes H i s Majesty's N a v a l , M i l i t a r y and A i r Forces.
